We are sure that you would agree that there cannot be a more painful handicap than blindness and no greater suffering than being confined to a world of darkness, without being able to see one’s near and dear ones or the world around, leading a life of physical and economic dependence on family members and society.
The major barrier to quality eye care services in rural and remote areas is accessibility itself. People fail to meet the costs of transport to reach a hospital or even if they do, repeated visits or time of stay at the hospital means that either the patient or the family member accompanying has to sacrifice his livelihood for the day. Making eye care accessible and affordable to the greater population scattered throughout rural areas in India is the key.
