Mt Kilimanjaro 2018

Dr. Sanjiv Gupta, an Eye Surgeon by profession is an adventure enthusiast, avid traveller and a mountaineer.

His philosophy in life is “there’s so much more to life, so much more to give back, just do your bit in helping transform a life and make the world a happier and a kinder place.”

During his 2 decades of practice, he came across lot many patients who could not afford quality eye care and treatment and this would result in them losing their eyesight and subsequently their zeal to live. It was this factor that motivated him to start “Sight for All Foundation” and ensure that quality eye care reaches the grass root levels.

Sight for All Foundation has organized 11 eye camps so far and 52 elderly have been operated so far.

In his quest to raise awareness and funds towards this noble case and specifically on treating “preventable blindness” caused by Cataract, the leading cause of blindness in India, Dr. Sanjiv Gupta has decided to do a climb on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain and world’s highest free standing peak is 5895m (19,350 ft) high and is often called the common man’s
Everest.

Climbing Kilimanjaro must not be considered as a walk in the park as it presents considerable physical challenges – the oxygen level at the summit is only 50% of that at sea level, so altitude sickness is an ever present threat. The temperature at the base is 35 degree Celsius while at the summit it can reach minus 20 degree Celsius with a stiff wind. The summit is still ice-capped with five glaciers carrying precipitated snow down its flanks.

Through this expedition “Sight for All Foundation” aims to intensify its efforts in reducing Cataract caused blindness’.

The climb begins on
22nd July 2018 and completes on 30th July 2018.
